A 300-level student of Imo State University, (IMSU) identified as Francis Marvelous, 21, has been arrested by Imo State Police Command yesterday for allegedly stabbing a fellow final year student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) to death
According to the source, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Henry Okoye affirmed that the suspect was arrested after receiving a distress call from the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of FUTO, Patrick Egwu, and convoy patrol quickly deployed to the university and arrested the suspect who was almost lynched at the scene by angry mob.
PPRO said : “The arrest was sequel to a swift response to a distress call received from the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of FUTO, retired DSP Patrick Egwu”. “The body of the victim was recovered and rushed to Federal Medical Center, Owerri where he was confirmed dead and deposited at the mortuary”.
While interrogating the suspect, he confessed to have committed the crime, claiming that he had an hot argument with personnel of the University’s Man O’ War Unit on 29/03/2024 at about 2200hrs during which he brought out a knife he neatly concealed in his trousers and stabbed the victim to death.
The suspect also identified three others who were with him during the fight. The name of his brother Francis Promise, Prince and a man popularly known as Soji was stated.
According to PPRO, several strategies have been mapped out to ensure all other suspects are get arrested at large and ascertain their involvement in the case.
Francis Marvelous will be arraigned in court after completion of a comprehensive investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
“The Imo State Police Command therefore seize the opportunity to debunk fake news spreading around on social media that the victim was stabbed to death by Hausa Fulani/Northern, warns that the misrepresentation is the handiwork of mischief makers who want to provoke unnecessary inter-tribal conflict between the good people of Imo State and the Northerners residing in the State.”
