EMIRSHIP: Police Ignores Kano Governor’s Instruction, Says It Amount To Jumping The Gun – Details.
Usaini Gumel, the Kano State commissioner of police has proffered explanation on why his men are yet to evict the deposed emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
It should be recalled that the attorney-general and commissioner for justice in Kano State, Haruna Dederi, had ordered the Bayero’s eviction to pave way for reconstruction of the facility.
According to the report, Dederi instructed commissioner of police to remove Bayero from the Nasarawa Palace.
Counter reaction to the order, Commissioner of Police, Gumel insisted that the directive was ignored as any action in that line will amount to “jumping the gun”.
Following his explanation, the Kano State Government had earlier filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order which would come up on Monday, June 24.
“The police will not evict the deposed Emir because the same government has filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order, which would come up on Monday, 24th June 2024″. Gumel affirmed.
“The government is jumping the gun because the same government has filed a case on the eviction order, which is coming up on the 24th of June, 2024. So, if we carry out the order, it is like we are pre-empting the court because we don’t know what will happen at the court,” he added.
According to him, security has already been beefed up around the Nasarawa mini palace where Bayero is currently staying.
Sources say the deposed emir is still within the facility attending to visitors and supporters.
