TRAGEDY: Vehicle Plunges Off Third Mainland Bridge Into Lagoon On Eid-el-Fitri Day.

A landmark catastrophy occured on the newly rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge today Wednesday 10th April when a vehicle plunged into the Lagos lagoon with yet-to-be varied number of persons feared dead.

This tragedy befell on the day of Eid-el-fitri, when Nigerian Muslims are celebrating the end of Ramadan.

According to an eyewitness, Mr. Akinola Adeniyi, the tragedy occurred at around 11.30 am, when yet to be ascertained vehicle en route Iyana-Oworo to Island route suddenly plunged into the Lagoon.

Mr. Adeniyi associated the cause of the accident to over speeding on the part of the driver of the ill-fated vehicle.

The rescue team, including men of the Lagos State Emergency Management LASEMA, and the Police, among others were at the scene  rescuing the victims.

It was gathered that the incident consequently resulted to traffic jam on the Third Mainland Bridge towards the Island.

However, a source in LASEMA affirmed that the agency was still in the process of ascertaining those who were involved in the accident.
