After the emergence of Prince Sunday Fagbemi as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, a socio-political group in the state, Orisun Igbomina, has congratulated the new state party Chairman.
…The group in a statement made available to THE NEWS KINGDOM via Orient Magazine by its President, Chief Gbenga Awoyale on Sunday noted that members of the party in Kwara state made a good choice through the delegates to the state congress who got Fagbemi elected by acclamation.
“There is no better time than this to have our party in capable hands.
“I congratulate Prince Fagbemi on his victory at the congress and I wish him success as he prepares to take up the responsibilities and challenges of his high office. I’m very confident that my dear Prince Sunday Fagbemi will bring to this new role the same sense of duty and personal integrity that he has been known for .
“Our delegates made the right choice and I commend them.
“I also commend our party leaders and stakeholders, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in particular for making the right decision and doing the right thing”, he said.
….Awoyale, who urged support for Fagbemi as he gets to work and begins to run the affairs of the party, also advised the new chairman not to allow opposition ‘within and outside’ to get him distracted submitting that there was no reason for the opposition to be a source of worry cognizant that they lack ‘political base’.
…..He also expressed surprise that some people could claim to have organized another congress apart from the one held by the party leaders.
This according to shows how the promoters of intraparty conflict in APC have been very inconsistent.
“Why will they say they had another state congress when they had earlier claimed congress would not hold in the state. They began by saying the revalidation and registration exercise will not hold, it was held and they later participated.
“Again, they said congress will not hold, they even took legal action and here again they are clamming that they had their own congress, why can’t they just stay on one lane? They are not consistent, they are confused. The only congress held in the state was the one that had representatives from national secretariat in attendance. Why are they deceiving people? He asked.
Awoyale also said the emergence of new Kwara state PDP officials on the same day was not in any way considered as a source of worry by the ruling APC , while alleging that PDP members who participated in the congress on Saturday were disappointed as they were according to him left stranded.
“Those who came from towns outside Ilorin were stranded , they had expected largesse from their leader but they were shocked as only forty thousand naira was given to each of the sixteen local governments in the state. People had to contribute money before some of them could leave Ilorin.
“They had thought it was like before but they were disappointed because their leader could not take care of their welfare’.” The statement said.
